This burr set consists of a beautiful, partitioned box
holding twenty good-quality wooden burr pieces (notched rods). Each rod is labeled. The
burr puzzle pictured above can be made one hundred and fifty-nine different ways, taking
six different pieces at a time. There is a description of how to use this
set in English, German, French. There is no complete solution booklet, but there is a
Table of Tasks that describes the twenty pieces and their relative positions to get you
started on the one hundred and fifty-nine solutions.
Mathematicians and puzzle lovers have devoted a great deal of time to study this
type of puzzle over the years. The Japanese have developed it into the popular puzzles
known as kumiki (burr puzzles made to look like animals, geometric shapes or other
interesting things). This Teufel Burr Set would be a fun way to enhance your, or
someone-you-knows, own exploration of burr puzzles. |
For those of you really into burr puzzles, youll appreciate this
technical information:
This twenty piece set contains 15 of the 25 "notchable" six-piece burr pieces
that make Level 1 burrs as described by burr specialist Bill Cutler. Five duplicates are
included to make the total 20 pieces. Sixty-seven of the 159 solutions use a solid
(un-notched) piece, the rest use all notched pieces. |
