Web-Site Information

Kuhn PhaenThis sliding block puzzle takes 103 moves to solve in it’s primary configuration.

It’s made of ten hardwood pieces fitted into a matching hardwood covered case. In this photo, the puzzle pieces are in the bottom tray, and the tray is placed inside the up-side-down lid.

The goal is to move the big square piece to the opposite end of the case. The instruction diagram shows how to solve the puzzle, and presents 8 secondary configurations you can solve as well.

Here’s the maker’s description from the solution sheet:

“Khun Phaen was the leading character in a Thai Legend, the "KHUN CHANG - KHUN PHAEN". As in this game because of being jailed Khun Phaen tried to break the jail through the Encirclement or nine sentries. How could he make it?
The biggest Piece of wood represents Khun Phaen and the other nine smaller ones are sentries. Slide the pieces along the given patterns (Lifting-off is not allowed) until the biggest piece is able to come too the lower edge of the board. Khun Phaen has accomplished his Jail-Break.”
