The “Sun” Size System
“Sun” is a traditional Japanese unit of measure to denote length. 1 Sun is about 30.3 mm or about 1.22 inches. This system is used to describe the approximate size of Japanese Puzzle Boxes. Note that the sun system does not describe the width or height, or the size of the inside compartment. These dimensions are given on the web page for each box.

in Inches

We consider 1 sun boxes  (mame)
2, and 3 sun boxes to be “small” boxes.

4 sun boxes are “medium” size.

5 sun is the “standard” size.

6 sun is “large”,

and 7 sun is “very large.”

1 sun 1.22
1.5 sun 1.83
2 sun 2.44
2.5 sun 3.05
3 sun 3.66
4 sun 4.88
5 sun 6.10
6 sun 7.32
7 sun 8.54
Guaranteed Quality
Each and every Japanese Puzzle Box we sell here at Cleverwood is personally inspected and tested.
We carefully examine the outside of the box using a magnifying glass and a strong light. If the yosegi is chipped, if there is “tear-out” or uneven lacquer or a host of other flaws, the box is rejected.
Then we open the box and check it for proper operation - smooth moves, not too tight, not too loose, not warped. We count the number of moves. We examine the inside for cracks, glue squeeze out, and other flaws. We make sure that boxes that are supposed to be signed are signed.
If all is well a Cleverwood personal inspection tag is put in the box before it is closed and put back in its original wrapping.
When you order Cleverwood’s Japanese Puzzle Boxes, you can be sure that you won’t be disappointed. This is especially important when you are buying a gift for a loved one at the last minute. Order from Cleverwood with confidence! Read our Customer Comments.

“We except (sic) returns for 30 days after purchase.
If the goods are defective or damaged please let us know what the problem is so we do not restock the item.”

“Defective or broken items must be reported by email within 2 hours after receipt of purchase.”

So - you are their quality inspector! (And you’d better be quick about it :-)

Everything you purchase from Cleverwood is guaranteed.
